New water treatment plant complete

Project tracker

Projected lift date: TBD

Gull Bay First Nation (Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek) in Ontario is home to 393 people on reserve. The First Nation completed the construction of a new water treatment plant with funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).

There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 97 homes and 8 community buildings:

  • a boil water advisory for the Gull Bay Public Water System was set in April 2009 and became long-term in April 2010

The community is working with their contractor to address remaining technical deficiencies with the new water treatment plant. Once fixed and water sampling complete, the community should be able to lift the advisory.

The community strengthened operations through supports provided by the Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) Centralized Water and Wastewater Operations Hub, funded by ISC. The community continues to have access to additional supports provided by OFNTSC.
