Anishnaabeg of Naongashiing

Upgrade of water treatment system complete

Project tracker

Projected lift date: TBD

Home to 204 people on reserve, Anishnaabeg of Naongashiing in Ontario replaced their existing water treatment system, with funding from Indigenous Services Canada.

There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 45 homes and 6 community buildings:

  • a boil water advisory on the Anishnaabeg of Naongashiing Big Island Water Treatment System was set in February 2019 and became long-term in February 2020

Work to upgrade the water treatment process and expand the building and water reservoir was completed in 2023. Infrastructure is in place that can produce clean drinking water.

Training and support is being provided to the community's water operator. The community will operate the water treatment plant for several months to ensure stable operations and good water quality. After water sampling is done, the community should be in a position to lift the drinking water advisory.
