Chippewas of the Thames First Nation

Distribution system repairs complete, feasibility study underway to address long-term needs

Project tracker

Projected lift date: TBD

Chippewas of the Thames First Nation in Ontario is home to 1,017 people on reserve.

There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 365 homes and 20 community buildings:

  • a boil water advisory on the Chippewas of the Thames Public Water System was set in December 2021 and became long-term in December 2022

The advisory is in place because water production cannot meet the current demand. Chippewas of the Thames First Nation developed an action plan to address the long-term drinking water advisory and is working with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to continue to implement their plan. As part of the plan, the community installed a bottling station that is currently providing clean drinking water and completed repairs to the distribution system to address any leaks.

The plan also includes a feasibility study, which is currently underway, to assess options to meet the community's long-term drinking water needs. ISC continues to work with the First Nation to complete the study and advance the design of a long-term, sustainable solution, which is needed before the advisory can be lifted.
