A call for proposals for the Indigenous Health Equity Fund – Targeted Initiatives for the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2025 will open in January 2025.
About Targeted Initiatives
Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) is providing $10 million a year to support short-term, activity-driven, Indigenous-led priorities in health. This program is meant to support innovative, high impact activities that are focused on a specific, singular goal for improving some aspect of Indigenous health. Funding may range up to $500,000 per project.
These initiatives may include:
- research on the adoption of new innovative technologies and processes
- application of demonstrably impactful approaches to addressing cross-cutting priorities in health (which may include Indigenous women's health, 2SLGBTQQIA+).
Who can apply
First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, as well as small grassroots organizations, who are not already receiving Distinctions-Based Funding through the Indigenous Health Equity Fund are encouraged to submit an implementation plan to Indigenous Services Canada.
Deadline
Implementation plans will be accepted on a continual basis. For the 2024 to 2025 fiscal year, priority will be given to plans submitted by July 31, 2024.
Once the 2024 to 2025 funding envelope is exhausted, ISC will assess proposals that are received for funding in the following fiscal year. This webpage will be updated once funding has been fully committed for the year.
How to apply
Applicants must submit an implementation plan to fesa-ihef@sac-isc.gc.ca.
The implementation plan should include at a minimum:
- the name of your community or organization
- the Indigenous distinction it represents
- the province or territory in which your community or organization is located
- a description of your planned activity
- a demonstration of how your planned activity is innovative
- any partnerships that will be formed to support the activity
- the amount of funding being requested
- expected results and a description of the anticipated impact of this funding
Depending on how much you tell us in your implementation plan, we may need to follow up to ask you for more details.
Submitting an implementation plan does not guarantee funding. All plans will include regional review and consideration. Program representatives may request further detail and clarification on any plan submitted for consideration.
Communities and organizations that do not submit an implementation plan this year will have the opportunity next year.
